Bobby Blue Biography

Bobby Blue Then Bobby Blue Now
Bobby
Blue joined Tiger Radio in 1968 after working at KTKT in Tuscon, AZ.
“Although I
had worked at five or more radio stations prior to KFXM,” Bobby says, “Al
Anthony gave me my first real lesson about radio being a business rather than a
DJ sitting behind a mic in a cool studio spinning records and enjoying the kind
of life that most people just dream about.”
Bobby later
joined LA’s legendary KNAC-FM, followed by KWST-FM, KMET-FM, KYMS-FM in Anaheim
and KCLB in Palm Springs.
Today, Bobby
Produces and places time buys for programs aired on numerous Christian
stations owned by companies such as Salem, Bott and Crawford. He is also the Program Director for Next Wave
Radio Network. “I am developing four
Christian formats including AC, CHR, Rock and Inspo for Internet radio. We
currently have over 20 Web site clients.”

KFXM:
my first lesson in working in the Business
After my
first (ratings) book at KFXM (we were using Pulse ratings then) I got really
great numbers -- especially high in teens -- which is what the 7 p.m. to
midnight slot is all about in Top-40 radio. I confidently marched into Al
Anthony's office thinking now it's time for the big bucks. When I asked for a raise Al did not blink an
eye. He stayed right on track with his extensive Dale Carnegie training. I was
sitting sunk down in a low comfortable leather chair and he was looking down at
me from his strategically placed high desk chair and said, "The only thing
I can sell with those kind of ratings is pimple cream."
Needless to
say, Al stayed on budget and I had to start producing concerts at Swing
Auditorium to lose (and sometimes make) money on the side.
[Editor's note: Don't fret, Bobby. You have no idea how many former Tiger Radio/KFXM jocks thought they could negotiate with Al. Everyone tried, everyone failed.]
